“A principal
rule for writers, and especially those who want to describe their own
sensations, is not to believe that their doing so indicates they possess a
special disposition of nature in this respect. Others can perhaps do it just as
well as you can. Only they do not make a business of it, because it seems to
them silly to publicize such things.” Georg Christoph Lichtenberg
I saw this quote but didn't know who this guy was - turns out he was a German scientist and satirist, lived in the 1700's. At any rate, he says a mouthful here. He describes how I feel when I write - not just here, but anytime I share my work. This is what I want to say to those who read my stuff: I'm not claiming I can say say it BETTER, or that I will say NEW things, but that I will say SOMETHING, and maybe it's a something just needs to be said - by someone, ANYONE who can say it.
So, I'm just squinting at the mundane, the everyday, the stuff of daily life, to see if I can catch a glimpse of the divine and sublime I know is nestled in there. It can seem silly to publicize such things, but who cares? I'm going to continue being silly; I just wanted you all to know, I know I am.
