What happened?

Lately, I have been thinking a great deal of this:

People say, when they are worried, perhaps when you are going away on a trip or watching a movie about someone with cancer, "I hope nothing every happens to you!"  They mean, nothing bad.

People also say, when they are ready to do something else but aren't ready yet or don't know how to make it happen, perhaps a teenage girl hoping to fall in love, or kids in a small town, and are frustrated, "Nothing ever happens to me!" And it's a sort of cry of despair.

And I wonder how often we do this thing, of saying something and not understanding what all the full implications of what we are saying really are.  My God, how awful life would be if nothing ever happened to you!  Right?

It's just interesting, that's all.
