11:11

In the last few weeks, I've seen the time 11:11 quite a few times more than usual or what could reasonably be expected randomly, usually PM, although on occasion, AM, and there have been enough instances that I've started to wonder about it.  The other week, I saw it, like, four nights in a row, maybe five, and certainly I've seen it in longer ratios, like 10 times in the last two weeks, which happens to be the same number of workdays I am required to put in (really, no matter what the length: 10 is the magic number).  I suppose part of me thinks I am seeing it more often because I am working late more often, and therefore am always up and still doing something that facilitates time-spotting - such as blogging, being on my new iPhone, or journalling and looking at the clock.

The more suspicious or superstitious among us might mention something about how 11/11/11 is coming up in less than a month, and while that's, sure, a lot of eleven's, whatever.   Ultimately, there's nothing about a date that means anything more or less than anything else means anything.  All distinctions, in the end, are arbitrary, which is *not* to say they are meaningless.  They are in fact meaningful, but I don't think it's about the date.

It's about paying attention. I have been trying with more dedication to be in the here & now, which is a difficult discipline, as the mind is always wandering elsewhere, especially when one sleeps - and one dreams, which can be a type of distraction, either fantasy or nightmare or somewhere in between.  With involuntary dreaming happening every night, the temptation to DAYdream when one is doing something like, say, drive in traffic becomes enormous.  I am trying to BE (in the traffic).

So, maybe 11:11 is just one of those "hey, now, look at me!" things.  I saw it tonight and thought I would mention it here, so it at least got me to do that.  It's now 11:29 but things take time, even short blog entries.
