This morning, as I was driving to my 8:30am meeting in Noe Valley, I saw some women jogging in a group. For those of you who don't like in San Francisco, Noe Valley is where all the young hip families that used to be single bar-hopping hipsters live, and they are healthy and wealthy and....and well, that's all I will say.
Now, I saw these four women jogging along together, and all I could think was that they read in some magazine or were told by their yoga instructor that the way to stick with an exercise routine is to find a buddy (or several), form a group and then do the exercise all together. It makes sense.
It's also one of those SILLY things that you read about think, no one is ever going to actually *do* this - like when fashion mags give you diet advice by saying "satisfy your sweet tooth by having gummi bears - or a peach." Right. I have news for you. All that does is ensure my chocolate bars and ice cream will be constantly preceded by gummi bears or peaches.
But these women - they had read about jogging with a buddy, and now they were doing it. They were following good advice. It was so wholesome, and so obedient, and so...well, annoying, really. I mean, they're fine, sure, but they looked unhappy (they *were* jogging) and they didn't seem like they were otherwise friends.
Anyway, if you jog with friends, more power to you, but I hope you can REALLY enjoy it, and not just look like you're not just following someone else's advice.
