I recently was looking for a piece of my old writing, and came across some of those ubiquitous scraps that all writers have: snippets that are great, and need to be used someday, but when? Well, I think a blog is a perfect context-free showcase for them:
A thought from me, from August 8, 2000:
"I don't want to be counted on, but I certainly don't want to be counted out."
This is an unknown quote - no idea who said it, including if it was me:
"Human beings have a tremendous problem with freedom, no matter where we are in the hierarchy."
And this is something I think I am paraphrasing from something I heard on Caroline Casey's Visionary Activism show:
"I love the country, but I don't love the government....To criticize a wayward government is the highest form of patriotism."
Another paraphrased idea from the unknown:
"People are focused on the apocalypse because they feel guilty about what they'd done to the planet."
One of my favorites, by my friend Z, who has an exaggerated sense of the splendor of my life, and who said, on Jan 10, 2002:
"Your filler is everyone else's titillation."
Something that is just clever, unless you know my friend Evan, who said it:
"I'm not really a brawler. I'm more of a smart ass."
And a recent idea of mine:
"I must seek to relinquish inappropriate ownership and take up anything that is truly mine to manifest."
So should we all. So, there you are. Some short randomness because a really long entry is up next. How do I know? I am already working on it!

Fabulous! Can you expand on the last quote? Perhaps provide an objective example?
ReplyDeleteOh, there's many many examples from both work and home life about what responsibilities should be relinquished. For instance, I may be responsible for group morale, but everyone is responsible for their own happiness.
